The combination of recently cored greens and a stroke event didn’t deter the cream from rising to the top on Saturday. Greg Noble continued his very consistent form by winning A Grade with a 67 nett score from Adam Johansen on a countback. Greg, who plays in the B Grade pennant team, has a game that most players try to emulate—fairways and greens, with not much trouble. He is a great contrast to Adam who blasts the ball long distances (he eagled the 7th) from his single figure handicap. B grade was won by Greg Miller with a day’s best score of 66 nett, one stroke ahead of the rejuvenated Bobby hale, who seems ready to really reduce his handicap judging by his finely adjusted swing and straighter approach to the green.
Paul Judd, another very consistent golfer, won C Grade with a 69 nett from one of our veterans, Lester Bootes, who really enjoys his golf and would have been very pleased with his round on Saturday..
Our former club professional, Joel McDougall, made a welcome return to the course, showing his all round skills by winning the nearest the pin on the last hole and scoring an eagle on the 6th.
The Pennant teams fared quite well on Sunday with the A grade defeating The Vintage 4.5 to 2.5 at Maitland. They are currently running third on 12 points, 3 points behind the joint leaders, Maitland and Muswellbrook. B Grade kept their slim finals hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Dungog at Singleton, whilst C Grade also won winning 2-1 against Singleton at Dungog. Unfortunately, the seniors lost to The Vintage 3-0 at Muswellbrook
